Err on the side of taking responsibility for mistakes
People are often reluctant to take responsibility for mistakes where it’s not 100% clearly their fault. I think this is a mistake for two reasons:
- I like people way more when they are quick to take responsibility. If you accept responsibility quickly, people tend to be a lot less mad. I think people think by trying to distance themselves they’ll get less of the blame, but usually it works the opposite way round.
- Accepting your role in a mistake helps you learn and grow so you improve for next time.
Seems to be an example of people acting against their own interests.
